Malo e lelei - talitali fiefia!
Hello and welcome to Tonga A to Z!
If you pick up a brochure on Tonga from a travel agent you will probably read that the Kingdom of Tonga is a “rare sprinkling of jewels set in the turquoise blue of the Pacific”. It could well say the same in a dictionary.
Apart from the diverse natural beauty, it is the people and the culture that makes Tonga such a unique and rewarding destination. Tonga is the only Pacific nation never to have been subjected to foreign rule and, as such, traditional lifestyle has been maintained. The monarchy is important, as is the church and the sense of family and inner peace can be somewhat enviable.
This is a thumbnail guide to the Kingdom Of Tonga, it's principal population centre of Nuku'alofa, and the main islands Eua, Ha'apai, Niuas, Tongatapu and Vava'u, along with some quirky, personal observations. It has been written for a ‘fun’, entertaining read as well as factual information. Click here for more about the author of this site.
All prices are in the local currency, the Tongan Pa’anga (dollar), which has a very attractive exchange rate, making it one of the least expensive Pacific destinations. If you have any questions about Tonga or would like personal recommendations please contact us.
Incidentally ‘Tonga’, by definition, means ‘south’ - while still tropical, the country is further south than some of her Pacific neighbours and, as such, can be slightly cooler.
